Vago Elote (Corn-Redistilled Mezcal)

A single-producer expression born from Aquilino García López's experimental approach at his Candelaria Yegole palenque. The elote redistillation technique predates modern commercial production (corn-macerated spirits appear in Oaxacan folk traditions) but Vago's bottling of it as a named expression created a category of one.

Flavor Profile

Roasted corn + campfire smoke + caramel + chile + sweetness = Mexican street fair in a glass. The corn redistillation adds toasted grain character over the Espadín smoke-sweet base. Sweeter and more grain-forward than standard Espadín but distinctly not grain whiskey — the agave foundation is unmistakable beneath the elote layer. Polarizing: purists call it a gimmick; sold-out allocations suggest the market disagrees. Dominant: Sweet-Caramel amplified, Smoke-Char, grain-Maillard notes.
