AgaveTequila

Tequila Añejo

The category that formalized premium tequila in the 1970s-80s, as producers began competing with aged Scotch and cognac for sipping occasions. Don Julio and Patrón's Añejo expressions helped create the 'sipping tequila' market in the US.

Flavor Profile

Barrel-dominant with agave foundation. Amber/dark gold. Vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, baking spice, leather — then agave vegetal complexity whispers underneath. The best Añejos maintain a green, peppery agave thread through the oak. Dominant nodes: Vanilla-Oak, Sweet-Caramel, dried fruit. At 3 years the agave can get buried; at 1–1.5 years the tension is ideal.
