Ruby Port

Port created by English merchants in the late 17th century fortifying Portuguese Douro wine for ocean transport to England. The Methuen Treaty of 1703 gave Portuguese wine preferential tariffs. The Marquis of Pombal established the world's first legally defined wine appellation in 1756 (beating French AOC by ~2 centuries). Ruby is the entry-level expression of this tradition — the workhorse style before age-dated Tawny and Vintage tiers.

Flavor Profile

Deep garnet to ruby. Direct: black cherry, blackberry, plum, chocolate, warm spiritous finish. Port in its most exuberant, least complicated form. Sweet, fruit-forward, accessible.
