Polish Vodka (Polska Wódka GI)

Poland's 2013 Polska Wódka GI was enacted the same year Tennessee codified the Lincoln County Process into state law — two regions claiming their spirits through legislation simultaneously. Poland's law was a response to decades of the EU Vodka Wars debate, securing legal protection for what Poles consider the authentic vodka tradition: pure grain or potato, grown and produced entirely within Polish borders.

Flavor Profile

{"primary":"Depends on base: rye (spicy, breadlike), wheat (clean, neutral), potato (creamy, full-bodied)","texture":"Varies by base; rye vodkas are the signature — peppery and complex for a vodka","notes":"The GI guarantees origin and base material purity; no additives distinguish it from many international brands that add sugar or citric acid","flavor_nodes":"Neutral to Spice/Warm (rye-based) to Lactic/Creamy (potato-based)"}

Poland's 2013 Polska Wódka geographic indication law — the most restrictive vodka definition in the world: (1) Produced in Poland; (2) Made from rye, wheat, triticale, oats, barley, or potatoes grown in Poland; (3) Distilled, blended, and bottled in Poland; (4) Free of additives other than water. Vodka's closest equivalent to Cognac's AOC protection.
