Nordic Whisky

Mackmyra (1999) pioneered Scandinavian whisky, using local ingredients — Swedish oak from managed forests, birch branches for smoking — to create a distinctly Swedish product. Stauning followed, with the unusual innovation of hand floor-malting all grain, resurrecting a practice most commercial producers abandoned decades ago.

Flavor Profile

Mackmyra: Swedish birch smoke contributes a distinctly different smoky character from peat — lighter, woodsy, less medicinal. Stauning: earthy, grain-forward, with coastal character from its North Sea geography.
