GinGin

Distilled Gin

Established by EU regulation as the middle tier to create a meaningful distinction between industrially compounded gin (plain gin) and the most rigorous production standard (London Dry). The category gave legal home to gins that use genuine distillation but want post-distillation flexibility — post-infusion, sweetening, or other finishing techniques.

Flavor Profile

Variable — encompasses everything from near-London Dry expressions to heavily post-processed flavored gins. The distillation step means the botanical base is more integrated and complex than compound gin, but post-distillation additions can add sweetness, color, and flavors not achievable through distillation alone.

Barrel aging disqualifies from London Dry; sits in distilled gin

EU Spirit Drinks Regulation 2019/787 middle tier between plain gin and London Dry. The juniper flavor must come from actual distillation — botanicals redistilled in the spirit — not just added as extracts or essential oils. Post-distillation sweetening and coloring are permitted (unlike London Dry). Minimum 37.5% ABV.
