Bénédictine D.O.M.

Created in Fécamp, Normandy. The marketing story of 1510 monastic origin is debated by historians (the company was founded commercially in 1863), but the formula's complexity and quality are not in dispute. The Vieux Carré was invented in 1930s New Orleans at the Hotel Monteleone by Walter Bergeron — the Bénédictine is the 'bridge' that separates the drink from being 'just two brown spirits with vermouth and hope.'

Flavor Profile

Honey, saffron, herbal warmth. Where Chartreuse is a forest, Bénédictine is a fireplace. Honey-Mead dominates, with Spice-Warm providing warmth and just enough Herbal-Green to confirm the monastic heritage. Less aggressively botanical than Chartreuse; more accessible.
