The maritime, medicinal smoke of peat-dried barley malt — the signature of Islay Scotch whisky and a handful of craft spirits. Peat smoke is sharper, more iodine-laced, and more polarizing than other smoke varieties, carrying notes of bandages, seaweed, and distant bonfires on a rain-soaked heath. In cocktails, even a float or rinse of peated whisky transforms the entire flavor architecture.
Aroma
The nose is bracing and coastal — iodine, smoldering peat bog, a medicinal, almost antiseptic quality, and underneath it all the salt-spray of a Scottish shore.
